On Coming Out of the Spiritual Closet
Recently, in a sacred circle of fellow Light Walkers & Istaria Crystallis® Students, a member mentioned that she hadn’t told any of her friends about the channeling work she does with crystals.
Another added that she was slowly, person by person, letting them know that she was a medium. That it was a thing that took time, prudence, and care.
This is a conversation that comes up a lot in spiritual circles but is rarely brought to the fore:
How do you come out as spiritual to the people in your life or community that may not be open or receptive to your beliefs?
I’ve had to face this head-on both in my personal and professional life, because as long as I kept hiding or not fully owning who I was, I couldn’t grow, and I’d be holding myself back from my potential.
Outing myself as a spiritual author and teacher was something I had to do if I was going to honor who I was, my soul purpose, and what I had to offer.
It was the key to co-creating a life that brings me deep fulfilment and joy, and alignment with all that I am.
As such I’ve faced the derision, ignored the eye rolls, deleted comments and banned the trolls.
Recently I wrote this post on Instagram and it seemed to deeply resonate for many:
The thing is, you don’t have to share your beliefs with anybody if you don’t want to, don’t feel safe to, or don’t feel called to.
It can be your sacred mystery, that thing you treasure deep inside that’s your magic and yours alone.
My Advice:
If you do decide to share your beliefs with people who may not be receptive, first make sure that you fully own and embody them:
That they are your truth, your conviction.
That they light up your soul and bring you joy.
And that they deeply enhance or enrich your life.
Because if it becomes about being accepted or understood by others then it could lead to disappointment, and points to a wound inside that you still need to address or heal.
Let it be about owning the glorious, majestic, beautiful soul that you are - the truth of you.
This way no matter how a person responds nothing can be taken from you – it’s their issue – and you’re all the stronger for having shared it.
There’s no right way for everyone and there’s no pressure. Take your time, go gently, be compassionate with yourself and others.
Trust your intuition.
And know that you always have a space here in this community with me ❤️
Whenever we are going through phases of growth, change, expansion, becoming, it is inevitable that fears or obstacles will come up as a part of that process.
Like the dragon in the fairytales, it’s often facing + overcoming a great challenge that catalyzes our transformation and initiates us into a new level of wisdom, understanding, and power.
My symbolic fairytale “dragon” is a shark in spirit form - a great white shark, to be exact.
