Waking at 3 a.m.? Here's What it Could Mean (and What to Do About It)

It's been coming up so much lately in sessions with clients that I felt I should address this with everyone at large. Waking up at 3 a.m. and having trouble falling back asleep.  While there can definitely be many physical causes for this disruption, it's been so widespread that I'm more inclined to agree with the guidance I've received that the cause is likely to be more spiritual in nature for many people.

Without getting too dark or scary about it, 3 a.m. is the time of night when the veils are thinnest (some call it "the witching hour") and sensitive people are most likely to experience spiritual disturbances and/or dark presences.

Even if you haven't been feeling anything specifically, if you're waking up at this hour and you're a spiritually sensitive person, it's likely that your intuition is sensing that something is off and is alerting you awake (we are most vulnerable in the sleep state energetically as well as physically).

Tips that have worked for me:

Clear the energy of your space regularly

I've been burning Frankincense resin on a weekly basis because this is the most universal in it's efficacy. You can also try burning palo santo, white sage, or copal.

Wash your sheets and your pyjamas regularly

If you can sleep in white sheets and wear red pyjamas that works best.

Prayer

Saying prayers prior to sleep asking to be surrounded and protected by God's divine light, the authority of Jesus Christ, and/or reading Psalm 23 and 91 are all beneficial. You can sub in any protective deity, spiritual entity, or sacred text in relation to your own faith or religion. The most important thing here is that you mean what you're saying and that your intentions are pure, trusting, and humble.

Sleep on an empty stomach

Ok so I know this is a physical thing, but I've found that this really helps me sleep through the night soundly.

Meditate with rose quartz

If you wake up in the night the important thing is to try not to engage your mind in thinking or reasoning. Try meditating with rose quartz (I find this most soothing) for 5 - 10 minutes, say a prayer, or play a relaxing soundscape.

Sleep with a light on

I have 3 LED candles that I leave on at night. Their light is soft and soothing, and I sleep with an eye mask. You can also use Himalayan salt lamps, red nightlights, etc., just please do not sleep with a lit candle. Instinctively as children we knew we were safer in the light, and this really seems to help.

Remember that at the end of the day it's all just energy, and right now we're going through a period of time when there's a lot of energy flux happening. If you're sleeping like a baby, great! And as I said, even if you're waking at 3 a.m. this may or may not apply to you. But for those of you for whom this resonates, I do hope this article is of service to you.
